" ... perhaps Zhu Xiao-Mei’s approach to the Inventions and Sinfonias might appeal. It’s full of delicacy, precision and a sense of correctness. Her voicing lends clarity to Bach’s contrapuntal lines and her trills are beautifully manicured. Yet it’s all a bit too well-mannered: where’s the exultation of the F major Invention or the desolation of the F minor? I’m not going to flood this round-up with comparisons, but two words: Marcelle Meyer. In 1948 she brought colour, affection and a fizzing élan to these pieces. Just compare them in the last Three-Part Invention – one is a po-faced essay, the other a phantasmagorical yarn."
